Our road trip to southern Utah started on September 3rd and ended on the 30th after 3,710 miles and 28 days on the road. We camped for 22 days and stayed either in motels, a cabin, or Jay’s home for a total 6 nights. Staying in motels was necessary due to long travel days or rain. Our plan, Geno, Jay and I, was to hike, bike, see and experience as much of the red rock and sandstone landscape of southern Utah we could during the month of September and to do it inexpensively. This meant camping, shopping at local markets, and cooking outdoors time and weather permitting. After a long day's drive, we started at the southwestern corner of Utah in St. George and ended in Moab traveling through many of the parks and monuments along the way.
“The beauty and scale of this magical, colorful, bizarre, gnarly, twisted and contorted sandstone landscape was dream-like, haunting, and mesmerizing. Such visions compelled us to offer moments of silence, contemplation and reflection for the timeless forces and unintentional artistry of the natural world. All that has transpired in Earth’s evolutionary transformation is not lost but the foundations of all that we see and experience in our lives.”
