Built to commemorate the victories of the French army, the Arc de Triomphe is located in the center of a traffic loop formed by the interstions of 12 streets, including (most notably) the Champs Élysées. One of the best known landmarks in Paris, there are two things most memorable about this monument. One is its size...It's much larger than you would probably believe from looking at most pictures. The other is the abundance of intricate carvings on the many faces of the monument. For a fee, you can take a visit to the top and look out over the surrounding area. However, having just come directly from the Eiffel Tower, we decided we'd skip out on that part of it.
