Raising the Longhouse

On July 17, 2009 the Tsawout Longhouse community centre, located on the Tsawout’s reserve just south of Sidney, burned down. (The Tsawout First Nation owns reserve lands on Salt Spring, as well as on other Gulf Islands and the Saanich Peninsula).

On Sunday, April 11, 2010, the Saltpring Islanders for Justice and Reconciliation sponsored a Raising the Longhouse cultural event at Fulford Community Hall to help raise funds for the reconstruction of the Tsawout longhouse.
