This is the first time in about three years that the flower has bloomed and produced a striking stench that the public finds oddly attractive.
The corpse flower is native to the rain forests of central Sumatra in Indonesia. It produces a stench, presumably to attract insects that normally feed on dead animals, such as flies and carrion beetles. The insects then carry pollen from one plant to another, pollinating the plant's flowers.
