For the first time ever for us, we headed back to a location we'd previously vacationed at, specifically staying in the same lodging. In hindsight, we discovered that our impromptu vacation ended up having us be the very last guests to stay at the Shell Mountain Cabin under it's current owners, with the new owners meeting the previous owners there for the final walk-thru the morning we checked out. It's almost at the top of a mountain outside of Sevierville, TN, close to the nearby Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg areas. We have never been to this general area in its amazing Fall Colors but this trip hit right at the peak of it during the first part of our week there. We took several hikes in the Great Smoky Mountain National Park (GSMNP) plus did some other driving around, including a hike in North Carolina's Cherokee National Forest. Also for a change, we drove to this vacation destination instead of flying/renting a car as previously. It ended up being about 22 hours on the road each way, and we had a planned overnight stop in each direction. On the way TO Tennessee, we stopped overnight in Lawrenceburg, TN, staying at a wonderful AirBnB home and then the next morning after checking out we drove to the next neighboring town of Ethridge, which has TN's largest Amish population, roughly 220 - 250 Amish farms. We took a 1.5-hr Amish Wagon Tour that stopped at 4 Amish farms that sell their wares before heading on to our destination of Sevierville area. This was overall a 5-star vacation for us; just WONDERFUL in every way! Oh, and as you browse thru my sub-galleries of this trip, you'll discover I love looking for and taking pictures of old barns!
