Cascade Crest 100-Miler - No Name Ridge Aid Station (mile 80)
Tony Phillippi, Tim Englund and I worked the aid station at mile 80 on the course. The lead runner was expected through here somewhere around 2 am Sunday. The cut off for the last runner was 11:30 am. We had Jamie Gifford (1st place) through before 2 am and runners near and after the cut off. We thought we were prepared for a cold night, but we were not really prepared for the long rainy, very cold and wet night (nor were the other volunteers or the runners). There was a fire ban so we couldn't build a fire. Good thing we each brought along plenty of humor! The Coleman stove was fired up throughout the night, and we kept runners warm with chicken noodle soup and perogies.
We had endless fun serving the runners at this late stage of the run. Full CCC100 results can be found here: cascadecrest100.com. Kudos to race director Charlie Crissman for doing a superb job his first year taking over the race.
