Cephalopod fossil

This was one of the bigger fossils we found in the Burnt Lands area, where soil and vegetation has been scraped bare leaving things like this exposed. We found one more that was about twice the size of this one which is about 7 inches long. Of course, these fossils show only fragments, the entire mollusc would have been much, much bigger. Like the other mollusc fossils this would date back about 500 million years!
