Click beetle (Sylvanelater cylindriformis)

There were many of these beetles flying and walking around a patch of trout lilies in an east end woodland this afternoon. I had no ID for this species, until Blaine provided one. Thank you!

Click beetles are common but perhaps not noticed all that much, or mistaken for another type of beetle. They do have this quite distinctive shape, however, and if you get a close look you'll notice that there is quite a sharp point at either side of the bottom end of the thorax which you can see here on the left side.

I know them well. I have had to chase them in the middle of the night, not good sleep companions. A very fine macro. V
