Carrion beetle (Nicrophorus sp.) with mites

Fletcher Wildlife Garden

Nicrophorus tomentosus? These beetles are quite remarkable, as well as beautiful! This one buried a small dead mole in almost the time it takes me to type this. They actually dig out the soil underneath their food (carrion, hence the name) so that the animal sinks into the soil as into a tomb!
