Sometimes a photographer stumbles upon a place that stimulates the imagination to incredible heights. That is what happened to me when I discovered Retrospect—a store that specializes in antique bathroom fixtures, lighting, stained glass, and ceramics. I have taken hundreds of images here, and I feel I have just barely begun my exploration of it. Located on a busy street in downtown, Retrospect's windows capture reflections of passing cars, signs, and the nearby snow covered mountains. It's brick exterior is covered with ivy and it's interior entices with warm lights and curved fixtures. From the outside, I can photograph three layers of reality in one image—the brick and ivy on the outside of the building, the reflections of the city in the windows, and the exciting shapes, lines, and colors inside. But my imagination doesn't stop with taking the photographs. Another level of excitement takes place when I get the images into PhotoShop. Cropping the photographs into smaller pieces or changing them to negatives allows me to create entirely new images that bear little resemblance to reality. I love this phase of the creative process as much as I love taking the original photographs. I hope you enjoy the color, shape, and intrigue I find in this place and allow me the indulgence to discover everything from castles to science fiction cities hidden here. Enjoy!!!
