Laos-South East Asia. One known as the fabled LANE XANG-Land of a Million Elephants- now has less than a thousand left. The Elephant Conservation Center (near Sayaboury) provides refuge and veterinary care to sick and injured elephants and a natural nursery for pregnant and new mothers. Guests can also learn the ways of the mahout while living in a recycled Lao village re erected on the shores of Lake Nam Tien. The ECC works in conjunction with ElefantAsia-an NGO chartered to provide veterinary care to sick and damaged elephants and further the cause of conservation in Laos.
