Once surrounded by a white picket fence and a Victorian keeper's house, erosion has left the Morris Island Light House a quarter of a mile off shore and threatened to destroy the historic structure itself. The Save the Light Foundation raised public awareness and funds to wrestle the light back from private hands (it was once won in a poker game) and organize a restoration effort that has now begun. Foundation stabilization and the construction of a protective bulwark or sea wall started in late 2007. I visited the inside of the light house with my friend John Matt about 8 or 10 years ago but the negatives and prints of that afternoon elude me at present.
