Bowens Island

Bowens Island is a spur of high land located off the causeway toward the west. New condos are going up at the entrance to the road and there are several fine houses. It's best known, however, for the rustic restaurant and the local oysters that have been roasted there for generations. When fire destroyed the original restaurant Robert Barber reinvented this lowcountry treasure: bigger, with a better view and better beer. You won't find a prettier setting for a meal and companionship.
