This is said to be the most-visited place in Antarctica. There was a research station here once, then a military base late in WW2, then abandoned. Now it is maintained by the U.K. Antarctic Heritage Trust. There is a small museum/gift shop/post office, and 2000 gentoo penguins. All on a small island. At the time of our visit, the staff on the island consisted of six women and one man. They come aboard the tourist ships to talk about their work and to have a shower.
