An update. I've had a long (nearly two years) break from photography due to having a little girl. Although I've managed to take some pictures more recently my focus, through necessity, has shifted. Although a new area of photography for me, I hope you will enjoy my new gallery "(Mostly) Portraits".

Although I have taken pictures on and off over the years it wasn't until I took the picture fronting my Fungi gallery that my passion for photography took off. Prior to this I "just" took snaps - or records of moments and things.
Then, on a fungus foray in Oct 05, I spent a little more time photographing the interesting patterns in some Orange Peel fungus. At home, and with a little judicious cropping, I suddenly had an image that was more than just a record of a fungus I'd seen that day. To me it was more than the sum of its parts - it was aesthetically pleasing in a way I’d never achieved before.
It was one of those life changing moments, as I was now curious why this image was so different from all the rest I’d ever taken. Nearly all of the photographs in my gallery were taken after this point and given how little time I can actually spend on photography I have a long (and enjoyable) journey ahead of me.
I bought myself a digital SLR in Feb 06 and these galleries are a place for me (as time permits) to add my notes and critique my work as part of my journey to improve my photographic skills. I also hope you enjoy looking at my galleries, and any comments you may have, especially those with constructive criticisms, are very welcome.
