Boscaje de la Palma

This is the Sabal Palms wildlife refuge, administered by Gorgas Science Society, located about 10 miles southeast of Brownsville, Texas, at the extreme southern tip of the state. Sabal texana (or maybe Sabal mexicana) reaches its extreme northern natural geographic limit at this point. At one time the lower delta region of the Rio Grande was covered with palm/ebony forest; Boscaje de la Palma is a remnant of this once widespread natural vegetation.
