"Falco columbarius suckleyi (Black Pigeon Hawk)"
Once called the "Pigeon Hawk" because they resemble a pigeon in flight but they are a member of the Falcon family. Not often seen.
This young fellow had just chased the Kingfisher I was waiting for away. He has been resident in our local marsh for the past few weeks but today was the first time I was able to snap his picture. It was a joy to watch him hunt dragonflies over the pond, very, very fast flier. We are hopeful he will stay for the winter.
