Your pictures are inspiring! I am getting a Ridgeback in a few short weeks and your pictures make me feel tingly all over.....you capture the essence so well. I feel the need to get rid of my point and shoot camera and get a Nikon D200....

I'm glad you liked the puppy portraits on my site.

In reference to your DSLR hunt I'll try to give it to you with my full honesty and hopefully it'll help. Nikon and Canon are both great but keep in mind Canon is Innovating, Nikon is Improving and the rest of the guys are chasing. I shoot Nikon but love Canon gear too. Nikon is finally putting out some great low-priced models and with the D200 has a very good mid-priced camera as well. In the $1,000 range I think Canon may be ahead and since they have the 5D, they've got a reasonable priced full-frame model.

Keep in mind most of your old Nikon stuff will be useless unless you buy a higher end model (D2Xs) so I would recommend you put money into the glass and get a cheaper body. Go to a decent store and put them in your hands because Canon is very well suited to most women's smaller hands but Nikon has great efficiency buttons on the lower-mid priced models. Everyone will try to tell you one is better than the other but it's a toss-up for lower priced models. Where they really differentiate themselves is when you get to the $1,500 and up range. I would probably vote for a Nikon D80 over a Canon Digital Rebel but Canon will give you some great bang for the buck.
