Man carving a name into a granite block, to create a "chop" with my child's name.
He had a remarkably thick book with very thin pages and lists of every name ever conceived in English, along with its Chinese translation. After looking up the requested name, he made a chop with English and Chinese names carved into the block. He spoke no English and I only knew the a few pleasantries in Chinese.
