Factory service or exchange? I have been happy with my 24-105 F4, but I just bought a XTi and it was missing the focus on all of my lenses. After talking to the dealer he reccomed factory service. The camera came back in less time than promised and tuned perfectly. Canon should have done it right the first time, but I am happy with the result. My 24-105 is out of warrenty but I am going to do the newspaper test just to check. Thanks for your report it's what people need.

I had the 24-105L too, and from B&H. I used the lens for awhile, but when the enthusiasm about having an L lens wore off, I noticed that there was so much flare it was practically unusable, compared to my old 24-85. I sent it to Canon, they sent it-after a month- back saying that they had replaced a part, and it was up to specs. But, it still had the same problems. I sent it back again to Canon. They then sent me a new lens. It was just as bad or worse. By this time, B&H wouldn't give me my money back, it had been too long. So, I sent the new, second lens back to Canon, asking for them to make sure to send me a "good" copy. They called me and told me that they couldn't help me and that they were going to refund my money. And so Canon reimbursed me for the B&H price. I use my old 24-85 now. It is just as sharp as long as shooting at 5.6 or smaller, and there is practically no flare compared to the 24-105L. Some people say there are good copies. The two I tried were horrible. It left a very bad impression of Canon QC. I will switch to another platform when I can afford it. Good luck.
