Avid is the perfect example of the old saying that the competitive technology comes from outside your industry, not inside it. When the company started they had an uphill battle to convince people that computer based non linear editing was the way to go. Now the old names, Grass Valley, Sony ( at least their editors) and many others are history, and Avid is no longer just a trademark, it describes a process. Oh, how I should have bought shares
