To Debbi,

If you're still looking for some old photos of Lake Shawnee then send me an email and I can send you the web site that has a couple real old photos. I can't add the web site here because I'm not a member and it won't let me.

Karen, I have enjoyed your pictures of Southern WV. I grew up there and spent a great lot of time at the "Lake". I have lived away from the area since the middle 50's but do go back and visit on occasion. I hadn't remembered the amusement park...maybe just missed seeing it on my visits.

I grew up on a hill over looking Shawnee Lake. My uncle was caretaker for many years and we had the privilege of exploring every nook and cranny of the lakes area as well as the Bluestone river that runs along side. There were 3 lakes at one time. I almost drowned in the swimming pool when I was about 8. I Could not swim a lick but just had to get in that pool- with no adult around. The bottom was always a little slimmy and green, but this was autumn, the lakes were closed down, little maintenance being done as the pool would be emptied soon. Consequently, the pool bottom was very slick. To this day I do not know how I managed to survive. There was a large building, covered and screened, used for weekend dances. As a teenager I loved to listen to the music, almost hearing the dancers and imagine the fun to be had there. Of course, Grandma said they, me included, would all go to hell.:O))
Thanks for prompting the memories.

Back around 1968, this is as early as I can remember, Shawnee Lake also hosted pools, cabins, a walk arch bridge across the lake and and paddle boats, of course you can't see them any more, but I was just wondering if anyone has any really old pictures of this place. We live about 40 minutes south of Shawnee Lake and are just curious as to the old lake the way it used to be. Also, several years ago, there was a man who did drown in the lake and I think his last name was Inge. Does anybody remember anything about that? Thanks
