After a wet spring and summer, a thunderstorm caused a wall of water to rush through Athens Hollow. It literally moved buildings, boats and cars, stripped the road of the blacktop and ripped the guardrails off and twisted them. Unfortunately, these types of floods are not uncommon in the hollers as water pours off the steep hillsides.
