Robert, I hear the 21mm Voigtlander is rangefinder coupled. They make a shoe-mount framing viewfinder for it, and I'm sure you could just scale focus it around f/8 and not worry about depth of field at all. The 12mm will work, but you need to get a R-D1 specific viewfinder from Voigtlander to frame it properly. I have a heck of a time with the 15mm Heliar and framing close up (doesn't everyone with those wide angle rangefinder primes?) I usually just take the 28mm ultron, the 35 Pan II and the 50 Nokton (or some variation thereof). Sometimes only one lens, as I use my feet to set the framing, and that's either the 28 or the 35. Nice pictures, super the B&W. Nice sons as well. I would like to have a comment from you. Interested in RD-1, reading a lot in various forum, a little confused because cannot test the (not cheap) camera myself. I have a couple of questions for you. I like to shoot wideangle, ambient light. Which lens you suggest as equivalent of 28-35mm (I know should be aroun 20-24) whch not vignetting, fast (F 2) and not costing "liters of blood" ? I own a Bessa R with 12mmF5,6 ; 35mm F1,7 ; 75mm F2,5 all voitglander. If they work on RD-1 is a good starting point, but I'll miss A real wide angle, wich is in my case the most used on a rangefider camera. Good questions, all. First, it is a 6 Megapixel image. The sensor is a bit noiser but truer in color tones than the EOS DSLR meters. At ISO 1600 you can't miss the noise, but it looks like grainy Tri-X when you use the B&W filters in the RAW converter. The software is quite klunky, as there is only ONE RAW converter (Epson's) besides Adobe Camera RAW (it is fully supported there). None of the major RAW conversion programs yet support the camera (Capture One, Bibble, BreezeBrowser or YarcPlus). BreezeBrowser only shows thumbnails, but at 100x100 pixels or so they're impossible to use. I assume this situation can only improve as Epson R-D1 users become more vocal and keep requesting support for the camera. It takes any lens with a Leica M mount, of which there are hundreds of models from various vendors from 1950 on. If the lens is a Leica screw-mount lens, you can add a LTM adapter (also known as a Screw Mount to Lieca M adapter) and mount it on an 'M' body such as the R-D1. There are tons of lenses out there and lots of stuff on E-bay and KEH.COM. Another note: the camera has a 1.5x crop which means that whatever you put on the camera is 1.5x the focal length. For example, my 15mm Heliar lens becomes a 22.5 lens, effectively. This is because of the APS-sized sensor in the camera, similar to the 1.6 crop sensor from Canon. It is a CCD, not a CMOS chip, so it has a more film-like look to it rather than a creamy, noiseless image of those EOS sensors. Finally, the framelines in the camera are 28mm, 35mm, and 50mm--but this means they are those framelines with the 1.5 crop applied. This means that if you mount a 50mm lens on the camera, you will effectively have a 75mm lens on the camera, and the 50mm frameline is really showing you that 70mm frame, but calling it 50mm so you don't get confused. Confused? There is a conversion table on the back of the LCD panel (folds out) that will explain it to you. The hard thing now is getting finders of appropriate lengths for telephoto (not really a rangefinder's strong suit anyway) or wide angle (Cosina and Epson make viewfinders for 12, 15 and 22mm frameilnes with the 1.5 crop on them for a whopping $175). The viewfinder is SPECTACULAR, as it is 100% magnification -- meaning that you see EXACTLY the same thing with both eyes open, only the framelines float in front of your field of view. Why do I shoot with it? Well, I love the all-manual camera feel, and you can literally shoot with it all day without taking out the LCD and worrying about blowing highlights, etc. The meter is PHENOMINAL, and rarely gives you a bad image, as long as you realize you have a centerweighted meter pattern and you use exposure lock (button on the back) where necessary. Hey, just wondering how many megapixels the rd-1 has? and is it a smaller image in the viewfinder? (example- like a 35mm would be a 45 or 47mm), Im new to digital. Does it fit not only leica lenses but canon as well? Thank you, Greg

Thanks for posting. Followed the link from DPreview Epson forum. I'm worried I'm psyching myself into thinking I need this camera. I'm particularly interested in low light examples and like what I see. Also the kids at the desk is realy good.
