Cowgirl trip to Zapata Ranch, Colorado Sept, 2012.
Zapata Ranch is a working ranch on 100,000 acres owned in partnership with the Nature Conservancy. It borders the Great Sand Dunes Nat'l Park (35 square miles and 750 feet tall!) Trip highlights include: fall colors starting, amazing staff, the bison herd they manage on 50,000 acres, my companion Carolyn riding "Murphy", watching thousands and thousand of bats exit Orient Bat Cave, an arduous hike to Zapata lake at 11,500 feet, and a trip to the scenic town of Salida (on the Arkansas River)where deer graze the front lawns and we wandered among the locals at their craft fair. Beautiful landscapes, horses, and chow. Got our Cowgirl ON!
