"Ragoutsaria" is the name of the feast that takes place at the North of Greece, 12 days after Christmas and ends with the Holy Waters Ritual.
The name "Ragoutsaria" derives from the Latin word "Rogatores" that means beggars ! The custom has it that the "rogatores" walk around town, door to door, and ask for money in order to send away the bad spirits and have a nice/good/lucky year. In order to achieve their target, they make a lot of noise with their big drums and brass instruments (clarinet and horn) that sends away the bad spirits.
The mood is absolutely unique ! For two nights, after sunset, everyone is down on the street, with a bottle of wine in hand, and dances to the crazy rhythm the brasses and drums create.
