Canon EF 24-70 f/2.8L

This is an optically excellent lens with superb colour and contrast with good low-light performance. The lens is relatively large, expensive, and heavy (almost 1 Kg) compared to its consumer-grade counterparts. This lens is most impressive at full-frame where it maintains excellent and consistent edge-to-edge optical quality.

Five of these images are from the 28-70L which I "test drove" before selecting the 24-70L. Optical performance of these two lenses is similar - the 24-70L offers a little more range on the wide angle side of the zoom and also offers closer focusing than the 28-70L.


These are the same images that are presented in my main galleries but here they are sorted into separate galleries according to lens. The images you captured and created are awe-inspiring. I'm very new to Photography but when I see a beautiful picture my eyes starts a dance. You are an inspiration. I just recently purchased the same lens ( EF 24-70L) and now I'm glad that I made the investment. Thank you for sharing.

Hi Anna,
My copy of this lens seems to have a sweet spot around f/5.6 or f/8. I tend to use small apertures (high f-number) on landscapes when I am using a tripod or when I am including some foreground in the image. I really like the colour and contrast of the L lenses - I sure wish they were less expensive.

Mark, this is truly a wonderful lens. Well, OK some credit goes to the photographer too :-)
Do you find an optimal f-stop for the 24-70? I push it up to f11 or higher for landscapes but perhaps this is not necessary?
