Small pools or shallow rivers are the ideal living area for kingfishers. Patiently sitting on a perch as the best viewing spot it is overlooking the water waiting for the next catch.
Once located it is a quick diver but not always successful. But if so, it returns to the perch, hits the fish against the perch before it can swallow it head first.
