Our cycling group, Le Peloton rode up the Sunshine coast for a spectacular ride to Earl's cove, a distance of 80.2 km each way, for a total distance of 160km, on Saturday, June 23rd.

A few hardy souls continued on, taking the ferry from Earl's cove to Powell River, a distance of 100.7,km. After an overnight stay, they took the ferry from Power River to Comox, then rode to Miracle Beach, north of Courtenay, returning through a thunderstorm with driving rain and hail to Courtenay for Sunday night. On Monday, they managed to outrun clouds to the north to stay in brilliant sunshine for most of thir final journey from Courtenay to the ferry at Nanaimo, approx. 109 km down the old Island Highway. The route between Courtenay and Qualicum Beach, on the way to Nanaimo, is quite possibly one of the most scenic, cycling-friendly routes on the coast. The ferry ride from Nanaimo to Horseshoe Bay completed the circle - a memorable start to the summer season!
