BRIDGEPORT, CT - At 12:52pm May 26, the Bridgeport Fire Department was dispatched to the corner of North Avenue and Lexington Avenue for the reported structure fire. First report on scene was from Rescue-5 reporting heavy fire showing from the 2nd floor windows of a vacant 2 ½ story brick. The vacant structure known as the Chestnut Garden Apartments is slated for demolition to make way for the new Webster school. The fire appears to be suspicious and is under investigation. Firefighter Joe Alves from Engine-4 / C sustained burns to the face and neck while operating on the second floor. He was treated and released shortly thereafter from Bridgeport Hospital.
