24-JAN-2006

When Jill told me this weekend she wanted some pictures again I said great, sure. She told me it was for a Maxim/Beer (Coors? Bud??) campaign. Knowing about the beers I thought ok, but when I went to see what Maxim was all about I almost choked. So we both did a session that was new to us. I must admit to being uncomfortable at first (WHY! I ask myself...) Jill was great about putting me at ease. Nothing her Mom (my friend) couldn't see, and it was a great experience. Thanks, Jill!

What do you think? Has she got the Maxim look? I think so.

I saw this a couple of months ago whilst at work, and given the pressures haven't been commenting as much lately. But this morning I had a couple of hours and came back for another look. This is a simply superb set of photos Karen. You've got a nice model, but your photos have really done her justice. Well done.

Great use of the old standby "S" curve. Lines work great in this image. Expression and composition are excellent also.

Perfect lighting and composition. Nice job, Karen. I add my vote.

Very nice work Karen, there is alot to like about this photo, the cropping is excellent, my only suggestion would be to fix the cuff on her sleeve that is turned up, unless this was on purpose? Jill is stunning and the photo is professional.
Guest 28-Jan-2006 14:52
Jill Looks great, but this photo is stunning!!!!! v

May have to finally take that subscription offer seriously the next time it comes in the mail. :) The color control is right on, here. Soft, cradling...
Guest 28-Jan-2006 02:30
She is beautiful and you are good in shooting these kind of pictures.

This is gorgeous, Karen. She is, of course, a beautiful woman and the lighting and pink wall and background are great.

Lovely young woman and the pose very good. But the strength of this image is in the lighting. Very well done Karen.
Chris Sofopoulos26-Jan-2006 11:11
Very female shot of a very beautiful woman. Very well done Karen.
The only thing I would agree with Ray about the negative space.

Sorry Karen, I can't take my eyes from her picture, so I will read your note later if you don't mind. I don't know what's your intention with those pictures but you got my attention for sure!!! :D And can you please move the photo camera a little bit to the left if you don't mind? :-)
Guest 25-Jan-2006 20:39

Neal Nye25-Jan-2006 12:15
I don't know about Maxim, but I imagine she could get whatever she wants. Expecially with you as her photographer.
Guest 25-Jan-2006 11:39
Jill has beautiful eyes
I tend to agree that the background, upper left, is a bit distracting
You could clone that out very easily
nice flesh tones
Ray :)25-Jan-2006 11:37
Of course I don't buy Maxim (!), but I would say this shot is in keeping. I think her place in the frame is perfect. I always like to have negative space in the area where the subject is either facing, or in this case, leaning towards. I also think you have cropped at just the right point, allowing a glimpse of her "frillies".
You are lucky to have a darn fine model, but Karen you were the one who composed and took the picture.
Voted.

Super portrait/portfolio photo. The background really complements her skin tones and she looks very seductive here which is perfect for a beer ad.

I don't know the Maxim look, Karen, but I can't imagine not appreciating Jill. Excellent work.
joanteno25-Jan-2006 10:10
Great shot- I would try the crop suggested
viljamix25-Jan-2006 08:10
Quite nice; I like the pose and the light, but I think there's a bit too much empty space on the right and I also find the "edges" above the left shoulder distracting.
kent larnhill25-Jan-2006 07:23
Great work, so well done!
JW25-Jan-2006 07:12

Stunning work, Karen. It must have been a treat to have been nervous and still come out with results like this. Maxim will be delighted.

Now being serious Karen this is a beautiful portrait, and I guess "Beautiful" is the right word to describe this image, she looks fantastic and the image is in excelent taste. In my opinion you both have done such and excellent job!!!

Dennis Steinauer25-Jan-2006 03:39
Karen, This is outstanding! I love the lighting (same as your earlier pic?). I did some like this with the sister of a friend (see my PAD), but your lighting, posing, and composition are so much better. Have you seen the photos in Wm Bates Glamour gallery (esp. Wanda's friend, Liz)? Yours is in the same league. Did I mention Wow!? You go, girl.
Guest 25-Jan-2006 03:25
Delicious! Grabs me. Vote. Would crop just a bit lower. Try the same with Aperture set at f11. Would love to see more of THIS!! Regards

This is excellent Karen. You have got a real knack for mellow lighting. This is so perfectly understated. I don't know how you do it, but your great with this type of lighting. I don't know whose idea this pose was, but it is superb.
