Beautiful close up shot. I like the blur sense in the background.
Guest 22-Dec-2004 21:18
I know the flu feeling. BLeh, hope you feel better soon.

Excellent details and DOF. Very well done.
cheers

absolutly great details.
Herb 21-Dec-2004 13:41
I like the idea

I like the DOF on this. One thing I do to get my DOF perfect with the rebel is to set the camera to AV mode, then hold the Aperature button (on the left of the lense) while toggling the aperature wheel. This will let you see exactly what you are going to get when the shutter opens (but does cut the light a bit).

Feel better :(

I agree with lisa and with our favorite eastern coastline. It is great this way, but stopping down several stops would have given you what you were visualizing in your minds eye. Get to bed.
Lisa Schlender21-Dec-2004 03:35
I really like it, Karen! I hope you are feeling well soon.
Guest 21-Dec-2004 00:37
Even if this doesn't meet your expectations, it sure meets ours! Great shot! Feel better!!
Susanne21-Dec-2004 00:24
We all love it anyway. Look at all those comments. Hope you feel better soon. I like the blurr in the background and that touch of red just gives this pic a bit umpf.

It may not be what you were after but it's very very good. The shallow DOF is super. You know they say that with colds & flu 50% of your brain power is effected....:>b
Stu20-Dec-2004 14:06
Wonderfully shallow DoF. Superbly done, Karen.
Karen Stuebing20-Dec-2004 11:50
I think it's excellent. Hope you feel better soon.
Jude Marion20-Dec-2004 07:43
Wonderful DOF ... I think this conveys the message very nicely!
Get well soon, Karen ... it sucks to be ill this time of year!
Pepe Zyman20-Dec-2004 05:48
You need a wide angle lense for this shot!
Gary Winters20-Dec-2004 05:33
Aw, Karen...recover quickly and easily, okay? And there's merit to this shot, so feel good about that too!
jude20-Dec-2004 05:28
I know you're not surprised that I love the DOF on this...
Neal Nye20-Dec-2004 05:01
First, you can be excused of anything in your condition, and second, it may not be what you intended, but it's really nice the way it is. I love how you framed it in red to match whatever's hanging on the hook. It's sort of spooky and mysterious and really well done.
Guest 20-Dec-2004 04:56
That's right, blame it all on the flu! Ohh you are just too much!
I really like the DoF here, almost looks layered.
DeMorcan20-Dec-2004 04:47
Take care of that flu and get to feeling better soon.
Guest 20-Dec-2004 04:07
This may not have been what you envisioned, but it certainly came out nice. I love the very shallow depth of field.
Karen Leaf20-Dec-2004 03:27
Pete and Robin: This was Raw, and a HUGE crop. I moved back, I moved the holders back, I was using a tripod, I almost took the door down going into the LR, I think I tried every combination except the very obvious; it just wasn't getting thru my thick head. Thanks for at least defogging that part of the frontal lobe.
Robin Reid20-Dec-2004 03:20
Good effort. And I agree w/Pete suggestion. Also consider moving further back, use your Large or RAW setting so you can get a good crop. That will help your DOF also.
But, my gosh, with the flu and 50 efforts... I'm impressed. Take care Karen.

I hope you feel better soon! I like this image, think you did a nice job!
Carmen20-Dec-2004 03:04
I do like this, but I do understand about it not being what you envisioned. I've learned to accept the "happy mistakes" of things that turn out differently but quite nice, and keep hammering at the things that I want "just so". Still, this is a cool shot.
virginiacoastline20-Dec-2004 02:53
you need a deeper DOF to get what your mind's eye can see . . .the 1.8 is VERY shallow . .try it again with 3.5 or higher . . which means you'll need a tripod to hold the camera steady (flu or no flu)=]
Guest 20-Dec-2004 02:38
Excellent shallow DOF.
Gayle P. Clement20-Dec-2004 02:37
I so sorry you're sick. I do like the DOF very much.
Guest 20-Dec-2004 02:12
Took me a while, as all I could see was a big "NO" and I wondered what (or who) you were saying No to. Thanks for the explanation, and get over that flu!
