Hello. Can anyone tell me if Queen of Peace RC Church had a set of 3 stained glass windows depicting the Crucifixion and Resurrection?

Good for you Brendan! Buffalo has a very active preservation community; people who do things, not just make snide remarks.

To Guest below me: YOU made the mistake! It's buffaloreligiousarts.org. Because you forget a single letter you started a rumor. NO, BRAC is still going strong and has incorporated many of the things from this beautiful church (now a mosque) into its museum in Black Rock.

What's even more sad is that the organization that was supposedly commited to preserving the artifacts of beautiful Buffalo churches is no longer an active website: www.buffaloreligiousart.org. Go figure . . . it doesn't get any more Buffalo than that.

The altar was purchased by a parish in Colorado. Within a few years it will be used to celebrate the Extraordinary Form of the Roman Rite of the Mass on a daily basis.

All the windows from Queen of Peace were saved by the Buffalo Religious Arts Center located in the former St Francis Xavier Church at 157 East Street. The Art Center's Mission is to collect, restore and display art, artifacts, statuary and stained glass windows from the closing places of worship in Western New York. Look up www.buffaloreligiousart.org and watch our progress

It is sacrligeous to gut the insides of this beautiful church and become a mosque

Another once-beautiful church left to sit and rot with a "for sale" sign in the front yard. Especially in this economy, who knows how long it will stay like that. Just wrong.

I recently read that the rectory and its contents are up for auction August 8th,2008. How sad! This once was a remarkable gathering place for this once great neighborhood. Having grown up in the Schiller Park area and attended school here from 1977 til 1983 when I graduated brings back memories. I remember Father Ben and Sister Henriella and serving as a alter boy all those years. Bingo and fish fry dinners during lent. Another of the city of Buffalo's great losses...
