"Adult" section was simply adult nonfiction. Teachers probably deemed this too inscrutable for second-graders, who would likely only jumble the books shelved in Dewey Decimal order. As a high school student, I checked out a number of chess books from this adult section - nothing prurient there!

I walked here from Winston Road off Hertel, through the pleasant residential neighborhood. Nice memories.

I remember walking here from PS54 on Main Street in 2nd grade [1959] with our class and teachers. In the back there was a slightly elevated "adult" section which we couldn't go in to. This must have been the original altar. Who knows what "adult" meant back in those great, innocent years. Sad, but I can completely understand why branch libraries make no sense nowadays. It was originally a Christian Science church.

What a lovely quiet neighborhood this was.....beautiful memories!!
