Laff In The Dark

The Laff In The Dark was a dark ride, with scary sights, sounds, and sensations. Thinking back, it was pretty lame, but it was always fun.

Does anyone remember the SMELL of the Laff in the Dark? That burning electrical/grease rubber smell...sort of....well it did not bother me....sweet memories....I went down my first waterslide at Crystal Beach in the early 80's before it closed....

i remember riding this and the funniest part was the man in the bathtub all you could see was his naked upper torso but by the time you got closer the light went off and the car turned away

Hi I love this website! I came to Crystal Beach many times with the Westinghouse summer picnic in the 60's and 70's. I remember doing the same things going into the Laff in the Dark, then the Big Coaster and the Wild Mouse. I remember I talked my mom into going on the Wild Mouse and she was laughing so hard she ended up wetting her pants! The best of course was the Comet. Once you got over the initial fear of being on that huge big ride it was a thrill! I remember riding it over and over again. A very happy memory of my childhood!

This ride scared me when I was little, but I always kept coming back! I always wondered what it looked like with the lights on?

I remember there was this life-size figurine off to the left, as you're looking at this photo, that continually and annoyingly guffawed. If I recall correctly this was on the left as you entered the park. The antique cars were a bit further along.

It's funny...as a kid I dreamed how great it would be to live within a couple miles of Crystal Beach. Now we live within a mile of Dorney Park, near Allentown, PA. Dorney Park in the early 1980s was a lot like Crystal Beach was, but now Dorney Park is "all grown up".
