Message from Iraq

The proud warriors of Baker Company wanted to do something to pay tribute To our fallen comrades. So since we are part of the only Marine Infantry Battalion left in Iraq the one way that we could think of doing that is By taking a picture of Baker Company saying the way we feel. It would be awesome if you could find a way to share this with our fellow countrymen. I was wondering if there was any way to get this into your papers to let the world know that "WE HAVE NOT FORGOTTEN" and are proud to serve our country." Semper Fi

The attached photo was forwarded from one of the last U.S. Marine companies in Iraq. They would like to have it passed to as many people as possible, to let the folks back home know that they remember why they're there and that they remember those who've been lost.

Sir, Cold chills run through my body right now. It is my admiration of you and your fellow troops. There's a lot of bad stuff going on back here politically. That will change. There are millions of people just like me who are doing our best to make it better, but all that pales in the face of your dedication above your own life. The tremendous sacrifice that you and your families endure VOLUNTARILY. As an old Vietnam Veteran (I volunteered and not drafted) I can understand only a fraction of what you go through each day. I go to my local areas when troops or fallen soldiers are returning home to show my support. You are loved, supported and prayed for. I am looking for a homesick soldier who would like to get mail and packages from someone other than family. When I was a baby, 7 of my uncles were serving in WWII. Since then, many of my family and friends followed. My oldest son Chris was a member of the elite U.S. Navy Honor Guard for President Bush (Sr.), while my youngest son Derek is a twice-decorated Gulf War vet, who in the past 17 years, has also served in Germany and Macedonnia, was an excellent Drill Instructor at Fort Knox, KY and is presently doing an outstanding job as a recruiter for the Army National Guard in Georgia. Hardly a day goes by when I don't think of them -- and all of you great men and women in our military. From day one and throughout my life, you have been the heart and soul of America and love you all.

I've seen that Anheiser Busch commercial where you guys just come, some airport, walking through, to waiting cars or the bus or whatever, to get home, to wives, girls, your kids, or to your apartment alone, modest house, whatever, whatever a soldiers' pay can get you (not a lot, not nearly like your pals that got civvy professions, small businesses, whatever). -And, starts sporadically, all of a sudden people spy you ... and they start clapping; then getting up, on their feet, as they clap. For you. And I cry. Like everyone else. Like as does the world, for you. Like we did at Vimy. Like we did at Iwo Jima. Like we did after Samara, when your little destroyers chased off the Yamato and her heavy cruisers, a native american captain, Ernest Johnston, coming after them and starting the fight, comparatively little guns blazing at the behemoth-like and far outnumbering Japanese fleet. And I remember all the purple fingers when Iraq voted for the democrasy Uncle Sam and her allies wanted those some 13 million people, in those moms and kids and iraqi dads; And I remember the illegal pipeline of crude Saddam had, directly to Iran. All the worlds' caring, decent people, no matter what color or country, cry for you, love you, worry about you, though they've never met you or never will. Truman, I think, said he'd cared not for the presidency, when it's compared to a purple heart medal. I think that goes for everyone, who's decent and honest. For you and our fallen comrades "NO YOU ARE NOT FORGOTTEN"! As a grateful U.S. Army Veteran the colors are always flying outside my front porch. I want to be back in active duty with you people in Iraq. As a retired Air Conditioning Contractor I am sure I could find somthing to do over there. The Doctors here at the San Diego VA evaluated me as well disciplined however being in a war environment would put me in a mania episode and documented me as unfit for duty. Can you relate to that? So I see alot of Veterans and work with them to see that they get there benifits threw the system OK. I even go to Miramar to talk to guys but your not there. I mean that base is quiet. If there is anything I can do like advise on discharge matters or have your attention on certain concerns you might have let me know. Go ahaed and check out my Photography there's a lot of sand in there too.

The aerial photo was purportedly taken on Sept. 11, 2003 (The Herald of Rock Hill, SC), the SECOND anniversary of the attack. Recall that this was soon after the invasion began in March, 2003. In view of what has been learned in the interim, it is hardly honest to be passing this off as a contemporary statement.

You are right on the head when you say that the soldiers are for protecting their country, family and friends lives, but are Iraq their country? Are the Iraqis their people? Have Iraq ever posed a threat to USA? Or have Iraq ever attacked USA in any way? If they had, I would have been the first to admit the right to strike back, just like the Israelis are doing now in Lebanon. Or like you were doing in Afghanistan after WTC. You are partly right when you say that soldiers should follow order and not question them, but common sense should apply. Have you ever heard the frase "I only followed orders" It was repeted a few times in the Nuremberg trials I belive... Have some respect. Seriously. These soldiers didn’t wake up one morning and become philosophers and decide it was a good idea to go to Iraq. They joined the military to defend our country, where their families and friends live. Many people appreciate the fact that when their leader said, wake up soldiers, we’re going somewhere where some of you are going to die, they didn’t start soul searching and asking questions like is this really ok. And then thinking, I don’t know, it sounds too dangerous. Or why? I thank them for following orders without hesitation on my behalf with courage and valor and leaving their comfortable lives over here to go somewhere as far from home as possible and dying!! so that I can continue living the life I have known, without fear and with less uncertainty. Books can be written on what is being accomplished by Americans in Iraq and what got us there in the first place. What’s in the media is all the only thing many people know and that’s only a glimmer of the whole story. I truly appreciate all of you soldiers serving our country over there or wherever you’re doing your job and loosing your friends and my countrymen to OUR enemies. Alex, if the moral is so low among the us soldiers in Iraq, why not ask oneself the question why? Could it be that they are fighting and don't have anything to fight for really? Its not exactly their homes and land that are under attack, despite what a few hardcore hawks in the Reagan-Bush administration tries to say... I wonder how many innocent americans (and Iraqis) who must die before some strategist sits down and ask themselves, is this worth it? What are the goals? restoring democracy in Iraq? Prevent a full scale civil war among the shias and sunnis? Which side to support in that case? Is it worth sacrifing thousands of american soldiers for? I have never understod the US logic or lack of, the best trained army in the world, have the best equipment, they will probably beat most other armies, but then what? What after the battles? More terrorists are made in Iraq now than before, is that a good situation? You cant send an army against a lunatic suicide bomber, that the us army have never really understood.

my cousin is training in mississippi right now to go over there and fight in iraq. he is risking his life to fight for our freedom. there is any chance that he could die. any time any place. i just hope he can come back safe. or......... at least come back. you know how it is, ill be in 8th grade when he comes back. 8th grade is a long time not seeing him. if we wern't fighting, we would all be safe. please stop fighting.

I'm a senior in high school and am about to go to the citadel, military college of south carolina. I'm going there to pursue a career as an infantry man in the Marine Corps. Although there are some who did not want to go to war and some who forget why whe are there, most of us believe in what you're doing and we do remember. We're proud of you guys.
