This was the encounter during which the adult female became known as "Spike." She flew from her perch at the top of the Deodar Cedar across the street to a roof, then ran up the roof, line-backer style, to the apex, turned around, and stared at me (I had been set up behind my car, using it as a screen, but now she was on the other side, and very close). I then noticed the pale spot on the top of her head, which looked like she may have been "spiked" by a crow or another bird during an attack. Because of that spot, and her brusque approach to the rooftop, she became known as "Spike," even if it wasn't the most feminine of names.
