Eppy is the result of a grand champion abyssinian getting out when she was in heat. He is the only kitten in the litter to have the look of the aby - and he looks a lot like a ruddy abyssinian. He is a wonderfully cuddly warm ball of love ... to those he trusts. To others... watch out!!!
Eppy recently turned 20 years old - he has outlived 2 cats that he was never expected to. He is slowing down and doesn't do much other than eat, sleep, and eat again. But at 20, what else could we expect?
Eppy was born on December 1, 1988.
UPDATE:
It is with great sorrow that I announce that my beloved Eppy took his last trip to the vet today.
He was diagnosed last fall with kidney failure and managed to beat the odds and stick around for a good period of time after that diagnosis. The last couple of weeks have been touch and go and today I decided that I would make the decision for him.
Eppy had a long life – 20 years, 2 months and 2 days – and was well-loved throughout. He came to me in January 1989 at the age of 5 weeks. His mother was a grand champion purebred Abyssinian who got out when she was in heat (oops!!!) Mom found a willing boy and produced a litter of kittens – Eppy was the only one who had any of the features of the breed. Since most of the purebred kittens took names of Greek gods & goddesses, I decided to go with the Greek trend and use Epsilon for his name (Epsilon means “error” in Greek).
He was welcomed in our home by Norman, his best friend for 14 years – they were buddies… slept together, ate together, played together. More recently he “put up with” Gus and seemingly accepted Clancy.
Maybe it was because he was still an infant when he came to me, but he will always hold a special place in my heart – my sweet pea!! He was always a shy cat – never enjoyed the company of strangers, but loved to cuddle with me every chance he got. In later years, he didn’t run & hide when people came to visit and on January 1st, 2009, he sat in a room full of kids who were yelling and playing Wii – I don’t know if it was courage or just exhaustion that made him stay on “his chair.”
Rest in Peace, Eppy. You will be missed.
