Tung Chung Fort

On a carved stone of the fort, it shows the fort was commenced in 12th years of Daoguang reign, Qing Dynasty (1832). After the surrender of famous pirate Cheung Po Tsai in 1832, the fort was garrisoned by the navy of Qing Dyneasty to defend the coast from pirates until the New Territories leased to British Administration in 1898. After 1898, this fort was converted as a police station, office of Rural Committee as well as the campus of a primary school. Tung Chung Fort had been declared as declared monuments of Hong Kong on 24th August, 1979.
