The faithful dog Hachiko waited for 10 years until he passed away at the Shibuya train station for his master (Hidesaburo Ueno, a Tokyo University professor) to come back.
Unfortunately, his master had suffered a stroke at work and died, so never returned to the train station where they both used to meet in the evening.
In April 1934, a bronze statue in Hachiko's likeness was erected at Shibuya Station.
