25th April 2006Actually there are two Summer Palaces - the Old Summer Palace (圓明園) also known as Gardens of Perfect Brightness and the New Summer Palace (頤和園) also known as Garden of Nurtured Harmony which is located just southwest of the former. The New Summer Palace (covered by this album) actually predates the old summer palace but it wasn't until 1750 when artisans' updated the architecture to reflect various palaces in China. Unfortunately, like the Temple of Heaven parts of the Summer Palace was under construction for the Olympics, however, will still got to checkout the long corridors, marble boat and cherry blossoms.
