St Vigeans

St Vigeans is a small village on the outskirts of Arbroath on the east coast of Scotland. It's dominated by the historic parish church, parts of which date back to the 12th century. It sits on a high grassy mound. At the base is a row of cottages. Kirkstyle Cottage was built in 1815 as the parochial school. The original part of the building has two round-gabled rooms which were the classrooms. A small cobbled area beside the front door may be the remains of the playground.

It stopped being a school in 1875. Since then at least one kirk beadle has lived there. Other owners have included a local artist who built a small studio in the garden.

Nearby is the Brothock Burn from which Arbroath takes its name, formerly known as "Aberbrothock".
