Wuhan, the largest city in the central China, thrives with the third longest river and the third largest country in the world. The metropolitan area of Wuhan consists of three geographical parts, Hankou, Hanyang and Wuchang. They're divided by the Yangtze River and Hanjiang River. Thousands of years ago, Hankou has already been one of the four major commerical and agricultural trade centers in ancient China. In the early 20th century, Hankou served as temporary capital for several years and special administrative city until 1980's. Now, Hankou is still the commercial, financial and trade center of the nation. I'm so proud of being a Hankou resident. Hanyang, was famous for its industrial achievement and weapon factory in Qing dynasty. It had the largest steel company in Asia at that time. But it aims at the best living area for Wuhanan and travel resort for tourists now. By the way, the largest zoo in central China is also here. Finally, let's talk about Wuchang. Wuchang is the largest district in Wuhan. Wuhanan often divides Wuchang into two areas: North Wuchang (Qingshan county) and South Wuchang (Wuchang county and Hongshan county). Wuchang serves as the capital of Hubei province for a long time. Before 1949, Wuchang and Hankou were two independent cities and rival cities. Even now, they still seems a little bit independent: The city hall and the mayor's office locate in Hankou, while the provincial governor's office locates in Wuchang. In 1911, the first gunfire in Wuchang led to a nation-wide democratic revolution and ended hundreds and thousands of years' governance of the Emperor in China. Republic of China, a nation was born here. After the nation was took over by Chinese Communist Party from Kuomingtang Party, Wuchang had another revolution or evolution. North Wuchang became the largest industrial area in China. There're the largest steel company, shipbulding manufacture industry, chemical and mechanical industry in China. As for South Wuchang, it develops as the third largest education center and college city in China. Huazhong University of Science and Technology( HUST, my alma mater) is the best technology and engineering institution in the nation. Wuhan University is the most beautiful university in the nation. Still a lot more, such as teacher's college, medical college and other specialized institutes. Besides colleges, a lot of research institutions locate here, for example, National Laboratories of Opto-Electronics, which is one of the five national laboratories in China and administrated by HUST. Wuchang has so many historical attractions, even I haven't yet visit them all until the day I wrote this.
