First season at Babine Norlakes Lodge under the new ownership of Billy Labonte. I miss the craziness and musical focus that Pierce Clegg brought to the deal, but Billy has been getting good reviews from all on his professional approach. This turns out to be an unusually cold week on the Babine. It never gets above zero the whole time I'm there, so dealing with freezing reels, freezing guides and freezing boats is a constant theme. Guests this week include the illustrious author of the hilarious fly fishing blog LO FI FLY, spey instructor and Loomis rep Chris Sepio, and Alex and Kerry from Oscar's in Smithers. Kerry proves to be tougher than most of the guys. Room with Mike and Darren S., who hardly snore at all. Guides are Billy, Darren W., and Joel. We all get our fair share of fish (Sepio goes 14 for 18 one morning), but the cold is a bit much for this aging Albertan. Decide to check on September dates for next year.
