Shortly before noon time on Thursday June 5, 2008 Brookfield Firefighters were dispatched to a reported structure fire at 30 Molasses Hill Road off of RT 148.

Police were investigating smoke in the area and soon realized the home sitting atop the hill some 500 feet up the driveway was fully involved. This single family split level ranch style home had easily been burning for a very long time before firefighters arrived on scene.

First in companies found the roof nearly completely burned off and several interior walls left to almost nothing.

Mutual aid was quickly called in from several surrounding towns including West Brookfield, East Brookfield, North Brookfield, Spencer, Sturbridge and the Warren Fire Departments.

A 4" supply line was lied up the long driveway and was being supplied by a tanker shuttle and bag operation that was set up at the base of the driveway.

Tankers shuttled water from the nearby Tantasqua Regional High School down the road on RT 148 in the Town of Sturbridge. A total of approximately 25 to 30 firefighters from Brookfield and their mutual aid towns fought this blaze from the outside for a short time before sounding the floors and making entry to continue fire attack and overhaul.
