Thank You so much for posting the photo gallery of Ontario birds! I'm not a bird watcher per se, but I do have a bird house in front of my window and can identify most of the "usual suspects".
However, today we had a black & white fellow with a red dot on its chest that I had never seen before. Thanks to your photo gallery I was able to identify him as a rose-breasted grosbeak.
It was spotted on July 27, 2017 in Dunrobin (west of Ottawa).

I have never seen more beautiful photos in my life... They've left me in awe! I'm happy Google brought me to your page when I typed in 'birds of Ontario.' Your photos of animals from Algonquin really brought back some great memories for me, so thank you for that. Don't stop what you're doing--you have a true gift! :)

Kevin your photos are stunning! I am using a Sony DSC H5 which has a pretty good range of options considering it isn't a DSLR, but I am simply amazed by your work. Thank you for sharing.

KEEP YOUR EYE OUT FOR A LOVEBIRD IN NORTH BAY AREA - LAST SEEN ON LAKESHORE (TWEEDSMUIR DRIVE)

THE UNIVERSE IS BIG, ITS VAST AND COMPLICATED, AND RIDICULOUS. AND SOMETIMES, VERY RARELY, IMPOSSIBLE THINGS JUST HAPPEN AND WE CALL THEM MIRACLES.

I know it might seem silly to keep looking after the big down fall of snow, but when you have something in your life that is part of your family and you know how intelligent this guy was you would be wishing for that miracle too.

You might just be out on a walk and you will get a pleasant surprise of a beautiful bird coming to sit on your shoulder.

Lyric is a 9 month old blue dutch lovebird, he is very affectionate, loves to sing, get head rubs and entertain you with his words.

He says his name very well, also can say pretty bird, Lyric pretty cute, your cute and a various amount of other sounds that will melt your heart.

If you have seen or know anyone that has seen our baby please call at anytime.

Thanking you all in advance for reading my post!

Hi Kevin,
Your pictures are stunning!!! I walk dogs and have been paying more attention to the unique birds I come across. I have a book called "Animal Speak", on Animal/Bird Totems and what they mean to your life. I saw a bird today that I didn't recognize and have been trying to find a picture of it. All black, somewhat shaped like a Heron but I believe smaller, still with long neck, sharp beak and long spindley legs.

Love your pictures! Got a canon 50D almost one year ago and loving it. I love bird photography too. Am excited to get more variety in kinds of birds I'm shooting. Any tips ? Do you use a bird caller?

Dear Mr. Fasken,
I came across your Birds of Prey photo gallery when I started searching the Web for a big grey bird (wingspan of about 3 to 4 feet) in the Downsview Dells of Toronto. This is in the northwest part of Toronto and has Black Creek running through it. Black Creek is part of the Humber River system. Our home backs onto the dells. (Although I have not seen them, I have heard owls hooting at night and there are deer and foxes in the valley.)
We have seen this bird in flight after we startled it on the banks of the creek twice in the past month. It was an amazing sight on both occasions, but neither of us are birders and just stood there in awe and is made its way gracefully through the underbrush by the creek and then out into the open. The only bird that I can think of that it might is a type of heron. It had a long neck, it was grey and had this amazing wingspan.
Do they inhabit the Greater Toronto area, and do they stay through the winter? If it isn't a heron, what else could it be?
