HURRICANE RITA

Hurricane Rita hit the Texas and Louisiana coasts on September 24, 2005. The photos taken in this gallery are primarily of the Fishing Pier and the Belle Mer high rise condo at Navarre Beach, Florida on September 22 and September 23. The water surge that flooded the Belle Mer is representative of the water surge among the garages and pilings of the high rise condos and the homes along the beach. Navarre Beach is about 300 miles from where the eye of Rita made landfall, but yet there was a lot of sand erosion here. There are a lot of photos of the Belle Mer pool in the garage area showing the exterior walls of the pool. A structural engineer designated by the Belle Mer Association Board will determine if any of the cracks are something to be concerned about.
