Cruise Around the Southern End of South America

We cruised from Valparaiso, Chile to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil via the Strait of Magellan and the Beagle Channel during early March, 2009 on the MS Star Princess. Along the way, we stopped at Punta Arenas, Chile; Ushuaia, Argentina; Cape Horn; Stanley, Falkland Islands and Montevideo, Uruguay. The weather was surprisingly mild at the southern end of the continent, but we did briefly encounter a squall with 60 mph winds at the western end of the Strait of Magellan.

The picture taking opportunities were especially good passing thru the Beagle Channel with majestic, glacier-covered mountains on either side of the passage.
