Philippi Camp Wildfire

Fourth of July Weekend, let's go camping at Philippi Park on the John Day River! You can only get there by boat, from LePage Park (3 miles away). We unloaded the boats and set up camp just in time for a summer thunderstorm. A lightning strike started a fire across the river, by midnight it had spread over hundreds of acres. The next morning, we were told by park rangers that we had to leave due to the fire danger.
