Yangtze River is the longest river in China & third in the world. It begins at Qinghai plateau at southwest, flows through nine provinces and into Yellow Sea after Shanghai at east, covers total distance of 6300km & almost 1/5 of China land area. It flows through some major industrialized cities and makes it the most important river in China. However, Yangtze River also floods every year causing lose of lives & millions of dollars. Therefore, the government decided to build dams to control the water; and Gezhouba & Three Gorges dams are born (the latter is still under construction). Unfortunately, a lot of famous historical sides, cities & villages will be summered under the muddy river, which expect to raise 170m upon completion of both dams. And an ancient pathway along the river used hundred years ago is also not spared. That’s why my friend & I decided to track & experience a glimpse of this pathway that will disappear next year. And admire the fascinating The Three Gorges. Of course, hopefully, bring back some memorable photos.....year 2002.

Yangtze iver will starting to flood next year. If you plan to take a boat like most
of the tourist, you still can go. But I do not know how much impact to tourism
will that be. The Three Little Gorges is definately more beautiful. But it is hard
to take picture because you will be sitting in a small boat during the trip. I also not sure the impact next year.
Sorry for slow response, I only check messages at here once in a blue moon.
Thank you.

Kevin,
Great images!
I've never been to the three gorges. Unfortunately my time has run out as my vacation bank is empty and the gorges are set to be flooded in a couple of months. Heck ... I have planned to go earlier but never materialize ...
Do you know if there will be any impact to the little 3 gorges next year? I heard that the main 3 gorges will have minor effect until the water level finalizes in 2008. The little 3 gorges are also said to be a lot nicer than the main ones which are degrading anyways due to erosion and pollution. If the flood doesnt take a toll on the little gorges I would go next year ...
My 1D is crying in the bag seeing your beautiful D60 shots ... !!!
